Transport for Pharmaceutical Industry & Medical Transport

Logisticoo transports medicines, active ingredients and medical devices temperature-controlled, documented and aligned with the requirements of the GDP guideline — from refrigerated transport at 2-8 °C to a direct run for urgently needed medical technology. In pharmaceutical logistics, temperature is not a comfort feature but a release criterion: if a shipment leaves its temperature window, it is, in case of doubt, no longer marketable. That is why temperature-sensitive goods travel with us in refrigerated vehicles with continuous recording, the set temperature — typically 2-8 °C for refrigerated goods or 15-25 °C for the controlled room-temperature range — is fixed before departure and the record is delivered with the shipment. We avoid transhipments wherever possible: direct runs from the manufacturer to the wholesaler, to the hospital or between production sites reduce both risk and transit time. Medical technology — from the laboratory device to the imaging system — travels with minimal vibration on air-sprung vehicles. Your quality requirements, for example on cleaning, sealing or driver instruction, we implement by arrangement. A fixed price within 30 minutes, one dedicated dispatcher, honest statements on feasibility — that too is part of quality.

Vehicles & equipment

Temperature-sensitive goods travel in refrigerated vehicles from the sprinter van to the articulated truck with an adjustable set point and recording; medical technology we transport in air-sprung box vehicles with a tail lift and gentle lashing.

Typical requirements

  • Temperature control 2-8 °C and 15-25 °C with continuous recording and record
  • Processes and documentation aligned with the GDP guideline
  • Direct runs without transhipment between manufacturer, wholesaler and hospital
  • Low-vibration transport of sensitive medical technology
  • Implementation of customer-side quality requirements such as sealing and cleaning verification
  • Urgent transports for urgently needed products, including at night and at weekends

Typical shipments from pharma and medical technology

We transport three categories. First, temperature-sensitive medicines and active ingredients: refrigerated goods at 2–8 °C (many biologics, vaccines, insulins) and goods in the controlled room-temperature range 15–25 °C — as a direct run from the manufacturer to the pharmaceutical wholesaler, to the hospital pharmacy or between production sites. Second, medical devices and medical technology: laboratory devices, analysis systems, imaging equipment and sterile goods, often high-value and vibration-sensitive. Third, consumables and semi-finished goods such as empty capsules, primary packaging materials or bulk goods between the plants. Some of the shipments are at the same time dangerous goods — flammable solvents, diagnostic reagents, certain gases — which we move in compliance with ADR. From a single refrigerated parcel in the refrigerated sprinter van to a temperature-controlled full load, the vehicle adapts to your quantity and your temperature regime.

Standards and regulations in pharmaceutical transport

The guardrail is the GDP guideline (Good Distribution Practice, EU Guideline 2013/C 343/01): qualified temperature control, documented processes, trained drivers and clear responsibilities. We align our pharmaceutical transports with these requirements and work to ISO 9001:2015 — we do not claim GDP certification, but implement your customer-side QA requirements (sealing, cleaning verification, driver instruction) by arrangement. The set temperature is fixed before departure, the vehicle is pre-cooled and the profile is recorded continuously; customer-side data loggers run along on request. Dangerous-goods portions we carry in compliance with ADR with checked papers. For narcotics and goods particularly at risk of theft, heightened securing and verification obligations apply, which we coordinate with you in advance. We avoid transhipments because every transhipment point is a temperature and security risk.

How a pharmaceutical transport works at Logisticoo

  1. Enquiry with the goods, temperature window (2–8 °C or 15–25 °C), quantity, consignee and any QA requirements.
  2. Fixed-price quote within 30 minutes with the appropriate refrigerated-vehicle class.
  3. Preparation: pre-cooling to the set point, inspection of cleanliness and sealing, activation of the temperature recording.
  4. Collection as a direct run without transhipment, gentle securing, and for medical technology air-sprung.
  5. Transport with ongoing recording and status updates; urgent cases run at night and at weekends too, and on long routes with two drivers.
  6. Delivery with hand-over of the temperature record and, if agreed, seal and cleaning verification. For recurring services we coordinate the process in advance, gladly within the framework of a supplier audit; your dispatcher remains your dedicated point of contact.

What does a pharmaceutical or medical transport cost?

You always receive a fixed price up front; the rule-of-thumb rates per kilometre (±15 %): refrigerated sprinter van for refrigerated parcels around €1.10/km (from €89), 7.5 t truck around €1.45/km (from €169), 12 t truck around €1.65/km (from €219), refrigerated articulated truck around €1.95/km (from €379); temperature control and record are included. A refrigerated direct run at 2–8 °C from Frankfurt to Berlin (around 545 km) with the refrigerated sprinter van thus comes to roughly €600–690. Surcharges arise for night and weekend driving, a two-driver crew on the non-stop run, heightened securing for theft-prone goods, sealing and ADR for dangerous-goods portions. A direct run instead of transhipment reduces both risk and transit time.

Frequently asked questions

Can you demonstrate an unbroken cold chain at 2-8 °C?

Yes. The vehicle is brought to the set temperature before loading, the unit records the profile throughout the entire journey, and you receive the temperature record with the shipment. In addition, customer-side data loggers can run along in the shipment — both records together provide reliable verification for your quality assurance.

Are your transports GDP-certified?

We do not claim a certification we do not have: Logisticoo works to ISO 9001:2015 and aligns pharmaceutical transports with the requirements of the GDP guideline — qualified temperature control, documented processes, trained drivers, clear responsibilities. Your specific QA requirements we coordinate before the first transport, gladly also within the framework of a supplier audit.

What does a temperature-controlled pharmaceutical transport cost?

You receive a fixed price within 30 minutes. As a guide: refrigerated sprinter van around €1.10/km (from €89), refrigerated articulated truck around €1.95/km (from €379), each ±15 %, temperature control and record included. A refrigerated direct run at 2–8 °C Frankfurt–Berlin (around 545 km) comes to roughly €600–690. Sealing, heightened securing and ADR for dangerous goods we show separately.

Do you also transport pharmaceutical dangerous goods?

Yes, in compliance with ADR. Flammable solvents, diagnostic reagents and certain gases we carry with ADR-trained drivers and checked transport papers, on request temperature-controlled on the same run. Send us the UN number and safety data sheet, and we will check exemptions and joint loading before dispatch.

How do you secure high-value medical technology against vibration?

Sensitive devices travel as a direct run on air-sprung box vehicles, lashed over a wide area and without point loads on the housing. Collection is carried out by tail lift where needed, even without a ramp. That way we avoid transhipment points and the impact and tipping damage typical there.
