Just-in-Time Transport

Just-in-time transports from Logisticoo deliver material to the line, construction site or picking area exactly when it is used — not earlier (no storage space, no tied-up capital) and not later (no line stoppage). This only works with backwards-planned precision: from the confirmed unloading window we phase the driving time including realistic buffers, the loading window at the supplier and vehicle provision; en route we monitor the run actively and escalate deviations immediately with a solution rather than an apology — in an emergency a replacement vehicle from our network across 147 German cities steps in. For series requirements we set up fixed scheduled services with stable departure and arrival times; for demand peaks, additional direct runs supplement them; JIS deliveries (just-in-sequence) with sequence-accurate loading we implement according to your sequence list. Automotive suppliers, furniture and kitchen manufacturers and construction projects with tight crane windows are typical users. You receive a personal dispatcher as a fixed point of contact for both sides — sender and consignee — and, for every individual call-off, a fixed-price quote within 30 minutes, Europe-wide across 55 countries. That turns deadline pressure into a plannable, repeatable process.

When just-in-time is the right choice

JIT pays off where warehousing is expensive or impossible and, at the same time, demand arises on a plannable, phased basis. The classic case is the production line that runs without a buffer store: material has to reach the line when it is used. Likewise construction sites with a tight crane and space window, where nothing can be stored in the interim; furniture and kitchen manufacturers with order-specific assembly; and retail warehouses with scarce dock slots. The prerequisite is a reliably forecastable call-off — with completely irregular, unpredictable demand, stockholding or a classic fixed-date direct run is often more sensible. But where the cadence is set, JIT turns tied-up capital and storage costs into a lean, repeatable flow.

Backward scheduling, scheduled services and JIS in detail

The core is backward planning: every segment follows from the confirmed unloading window, the driving time plus disruption buffer, the loading window and vehicle provision. For series requirements we set up fixed scheduled services with stable departure and arrival times — well-drilled drivers, reliable dock times, a plannable price. Demand peaks we absorb with additional direct runs. Just-in-sequence (JIS) goes a step further: the goods are loaded in exact order per your sequence list and unloaded in installation order, secured by separate stowage areas and a form-fit under VDI 2700. Throughout the run the dispatcher monitors by tracking; in a critical deviation a replacement or brought-forward vehicle steps in at once, so the line does not stop.

Just-in-time, just-in-sequence and fixed date — the distinction

The three are related but not the same. The fixed date is the individual case: one shipment, one guaranteed date or time window. Just-in-time is the recurring, phased process behind it — regular delivery in sync with consumption, mostly organised as a scheduled service. Just-in-sequence is the most demanding level of JIT: here it is not only the timing that counts, but the exact order in which the parts arrive at the line, so they can be installed directly without sorting. Put simply: fixed date = when, JIT = when + regularly, JIS = when + regularly + in what order. Which level you need depends on the cadence and the assembly process — your dispatcher sets up the appropriate flow.

What does just-in-time cost?

Every individual call-off is calculated on a kilometre basis (±15%): Sprinter van ~€1.10/km from €89, 7.5 t truck ~€1.45/km from €169, 12 t truck ~€1.65/km from €219, articulated truck ~€1.95/km from €379. The real cost advantage of JIT lies elsewhere: fixed scheduled services noticeably lower the per-kilometre rate compared with individual bookings, because runs are bundled and return loads are planned in. Example: a daily JIT run for a supplier Stuttgart–Ingolstadt (around 175 km) on the 7.5-tonne truck comes, as a scheduled service, to roughly €230–290 per trip, well below the individual price. Demand peaks as a direct run and night/weekend runs are itemised separately — the fixed price per call-off is ready within 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if a just-in-time transport gets caught in traffic?

First, we drive with built-in buffers and low-congestion route alternatives; second, we spot delays early through tracking and report them proactively with a new ETA; third, in a critical deviation we activate a replacement or brought-forward vehicle. The aim is that your plant notices nothing of the disruption.

From what frequency is a fixed scheduled service worthwhile?

As a rule, from two to three plannable runs per week on the same lane: fixed slots lower the per-kilometre rate compared with individual bookings, the dock times become reliable, and quality rises through well-drilled drivers. Your dispatcher compares both options transparently.

Do you also handle just-in-sequence with sequence-accurate delivery?

Yes. Per your sequence list we load so that the parts arrive at the line in exact installation order and can be fitted without interim sorting. We secure the order through separate stowage areas and a form-fit under VDI 2700. Delivery notification follows your plant's requirements, including gate and dock slot.

Can you coordinate supplier and consignee at the same time?

That is precisely the core: one personal dispatcher is the fixed point of contact for both sides. They coordinate the loading window at the supplier and the unloading window at the consignee, schedule both backwards, and report every critical status change — so neither side has to track the transport itself.

What does a just-in-time transport cost?

Every call-off is kilometre-based (Sprinter van ~€1.10/km, 7.5 t ~€1.45/km, FTL ~€1.95/km, ±15%); as a scheduled service the km price drops through bundling and return loads. A daily run Stuttgart–Ingolstadt on the 7.5-tonne truck comes, as a scheduled service, to roughly €230–290 per trip. Demand peaks and night/weekend runs are itemised separately; you receive the fixed price per call-off within 30 minutes.
