Shipping a Bonnet (Hood) — safely packed, transported insured

Logisticoo ships a bonnet (hood) distortion-free and paint-friendly, either standing in a frame or lying flat on an oversized pallet, with a fixed-price quote in 30 minutes. The problem with body panels is not the weight (steel bonnets 15 to 25 kg, aluminium and carbon considerably lighter) but the combination of a large surface, low inherent rigidity and a sensitive finish: a bonnet that lands on its edge in the parcel network is warped; a strap without padding leaves pressure marks in the paint that only show up during polishing. We therefore transport bonnets exclusively palletised, freshly painted panels with spacers so that nothing rests on the painted surface. Body and paint shops use our runs between the paint shop and the workshop on a shuttle service; private customers ship used parts after a classifieds sale, including door-to-door collection. Related parts such as fenders, doors and tailgates travel under the same scheme. Collection in 147 German cities, across Europe to 55 countries, and, for accident repairs under deadline pressure, as an express direct transport.

Packaging & load securing

The bonnet is wrapped completely in foam film, its edges and corners reinforced with cardboard angles, and secured either flat on a sufficiently large pallet with a soft underlay or standing in an A-frame. Straps run only over padded zones with no contact to the visible surface; freshly painted panels must be cured, otherwise every layer of film leaves an imprint.

What matters

  • State the dimensions precisely, many bonnets overhang the Euro pallet, in which case an oversized one-way pallet is used
  • Let fresh paint cure completely (per the manufacturer's specification), otherwise film imprints result
  • Dismantle or pad the insulation mat and fittings (hinges, latch)
  • Never load carbon bonnets at a single point, the edges are prone to fracture
  • Never stack several bonnets on top of each other without an interlayer

Large surface, little weight, dimensions and vehicle

With bonnets the weight is not the problem (steel bonnets 15 to 25 kg, aluminium and carbon considerably lighter) but the combination of a large surface, low inherent rigidity and a sensitive finish. Many bonnets overhang the Euro pallet and need an oversized one-way pallet or an A-frame. Single bonnets travel as part load or general cargo in a Sprinter van, several body panels as a part load, and urgent accident repairs as a direct transport. Related parts such as fenders, doors and tailgates travel under the same scheme. Body and paint shops use our runs between the paint shop and the workshop on a shuttle service, while private customers ship used parts after a classifieds sale with door-to-door collection.

Securing distortion-free and paint-friendly

The bonnet is wrapped completely in foam film, its edges and corners reinforced with cardboard angles, and secured either flat on a sufficiently large pallet with a soft underlay or standing in an A-frame. Straps run only over padded zones with no contact to the visible surface. Freshly painted panels must be fully cured, otherwise every layer of film leaves an imprint; in urgent cases we pack with spacers so that the painted surface remains contact-free. The insulation mat and fittings such as hinges and latch are dismantled or padded. We never load carbon bonnets at a single point, because the edges are prone to fracture; several bonnets are never stacked on top of each other without an interlayer.

What does it cost to ship a bonnet?

You receive a binding fixed price in advance rather than a flat rate; the rules of thumb give a guide (±15 %): Sprinter van around €1.10/km (from €89). As a palletised single consignment the price depends on the distance and pallet size; as a part load it is considerably cheaper than a direct transport. A Sprinter-van direct transport from Cologne to Berlin (around 575 km) comes to about €1.10/km, roughly €630. Cost drivers are oversized dimensions that force a one-way pallet, freshly painted panels with spacer packaging, and urgent direct transports for accident repairs.

Frequently asked questions

Can a freshly painted bonnet be shipped straight after painting?

Only after full curing, 24 to 72 hours depending on the paint system and drying. Before that, the film and contact points press into the surface. In urgent cases we pack with spacers so that the painted surface remains contact-free; your dispatcher arranges this with the paint shop.

Roughly what does it cost to ship a bonnet?

As a palletised single consignment the price depends on the distance and pallet size; as a part load it is considerably cheaper than a direct transport. We do not quote figures as a flat rate but bindingly: dimensions, postcodes, and a fixed-price quote in 30 minutes.

Do you also ship fenders, doors and tailgates?

Yes. Related large-surface body panels travel under the same scheme as bonnets: wrapped completely, edge-protected and secured on an oversized pallet or in an A-frame, with straps only over padded zones. That way even sensitive painted surfaces arrive imprint-free.

Do you collect body panels on a shuttle service between the paint shop and the workshop?

Yes. For body and paint shops we run fixed routes on a shuttle service, out to the paint shop and back to the workshop. Your dispatcher plans the frequency and time slots and coordinates curing times with the paint shop.

Can you ship body panels abroad?

Yes, across Europe to 55 countries. The paint-friendly packaging and securing scheme stays identical; if needed we additionally wrap the parts weatherproof so that they are protected even over longer transit times.
