Shipping Large Parcels — safely packed, transported insured

Large parcels that parcel carriers refuse as bulky goods or hit with surcharges, Logisticoo moves as general cargo or direct transport — with a fixed price in 30 minutes instead of a surcharge lottery. We mean consignments beyond the usual parcel limits: longer than 120 cm, heavier than 31.5 kg, girth over 300 cm, or simply too awkward for the sorting belt. That is exactly where damage starts in the parcel network, because cartons tip, slide and get stacked. Instead, we place such consignments on a pallet: the item is no longer thrown but moved by pallet truck and tail lift, and you get a time window instead of an anonymous delivery. Typical cases are furniture parts, doors and frames, long sports equipment, tool cases or exhibition equipment. Your personal dispatcher calculates by real dimensions and weight — from around 30 kg or 1.5 m edge length, the pallet is almost always the safer and often even the cheaper choice. Collection Germany-wide in 147 cities, on request at private households, with delivery also internationally to 55 countries.

Packaging & load securing

We place the item centrally on a suitable pallet (Euro, industrial or one-way in extra length), pad the edges with cardboard angles and wrap the unit with stretch film to bind it firmly together. Straps run over edge protectors; in the vehicle the pallet is stowed in a tight positive fit against the front wall or neighbouring load, so that the parcel can neither tip nor travel.

What matters

  • State all three dimensions plus weight — girth decides the pallet size
  • Mark the centre of gravity if the contents are top-heavy (e.g. a machine part in a carton)
  • Use the "do not stack" marking; we then palletise with a top board
  • For delivery to private addresses: request a tail lift, otherwise unloading will fail
  • Fix sensitive contents on the inside — the outer packaging is no substitute for interior padding

When a pallet beats a parcel — dimensions and vehicle

Large parcels burst the usual limits of the parcel networks: longer than 120 cm, heavier than 31.5 kg, girth over 300 cm, or simply too awkward for the sorting belt. As a rule of thumb, the pallet pays off from around 30 kg or 1.5 m edge length — the item is then moved by pallet truck and tail lift instead of being thrown. Typical cases are furniture parts, doors and frames, long sports equipment, tool cases or exhibition equipment. Individual items travel as general cargo in a Sprinter van or 7.5 t truck, heavy items or several together as a part load, and urgent, sensitive single items as a direct transport without transhipment.

Palletising and securing per VDI 2700

We place the item centrally on a suitable pallet — Euro, industrial or one-way in extra length — pad the edges with cardboard angles and wrap the unit with stretch film to bind it firmly together. Straps run over edge protectors; in the vehicle it is stowed in a tight positive fit against the front wall or neighbouring load, so that the parcel can neither tip nor travel. If the contents are top-heavy, we mark the centre of gravity; for pressure-sensitive goods we palletise with a top board and a “do not stack” marking. What remains important: the outer packaging on the pallet is no substitute for interior padding — sensitive contents must additionally be fixed inside the carton.

What does shipping large parcels cost?

You receive a fixed price up front; the rule-of-thumb figures give you a guide (±15%): Sprinter van around €1.10/km (from €89), 7.5 t truck around €1.45/km (from €169). A single pallet runs as a part load as an inexpensive single item; short distances at the minimum price from €89. A bulky 60 kg item by direct transport from Berlin to Hanover (around 290 km) works out at roughly €1.10/km in the Sprinter van, so about €320. With the fixed price in 30 minutes you see instantly whether the freight forwarder comes out cheaper than parcel plus bulky-goods surcharges. Cost drivers are oversizes, private delivery with a tail lift, and urgent direct transports.

Frequently asked questions

From what size does the freight forwarder pay off instead of the parcel service?

As a rule of thumb: from 30 kg in weight, 1.5 m edge length, or whenever bulky-goods surcharges would apply. On the pallet the risk of damage drops drastically, and with the fixed price in 30 minutes you know instantly whether the freight forwarder comes out cheaper than parcel plus surcharges.

Does Logisticoo also collect large parcels from private individuals?

Yes. We collect nationwide at private addresses too — with a tail-lift vehicle and a notified time window. The item should be ready packed for transport; on request the driver handles the palletising for a surcharge.

What does it cost to ship a large parcel by freight forwarder?

A palletised single consignment runs as a part load as an inexpensive single item, short distances at the minimum price from €89. Direct transports we calculate from around €1.10/km in the Sprinter van (±15%); a 60 kg item Berlin–Hanover works out at about €320. With the fixed price in 30 minutes you see instantly whether the freight forwarder is cheaper than parcel plus surcharges.

What happens if the dimensions are stated incorrectly?

Under-stated dimensions lead to rebooking, additional charges and waiting time at the ramp. So measure all three external dimensions including any overhangs, plus the real weight — then the fixed price stays stable and the delivery runs smoothly.

Do the contents also have to be padded on the inside?

Yes. Palletising protects the item from the outside against tipping and impact, but is no substitute for interior padding. Sensitive contents should be fixed inside the carton; we mark top-heavy items at the centre of gravity and palletise pressure-sensitive goods with a top board.
