Packaging & load securing
Turn the handlebars sideways or remove them, take off the pedals, cover the derailleur with cardboard — then we wrap the frame and wheels in cushioning material and fix the bike upright on the pallet with straps over the frame and fork, never over the spokes or gear levers. An enclosing cardboard or film sheath additionally protects against scratches and the weather during handling.

- E-bike battery: state of charge approx. 30–50%, tape over the contacts, clarify the UN 3171 declaration

Road bike, e-bike, cargo bike — weight and vehicle
A road or trekking bike weighs 8 to 15 kg, an e-bike with motor and battery 22 to 30 kg, and e-cargo bikes 40 to 60 kg — the latter clearly exceed the parcel limits. Single bikes travel upright on a pallet or in a bike box as a part load or general cargo in a Sprinter van, and cargo bikes as a Sprinter direct transport. For dealers we bundle several bikes onto mesh pallets as a part load. It is not the weight but the fragility that determines the mode of transport: carbon frames suffer invisible damage under point loads, which is why we prefer to carry high-quality bikes palletised with few handling steps or with no transhipment at all by direct transport — for example on a fixed deadline to races and cycling marathons.
Securing the frame and declaring the battery — the details
Before packing, the pedals are removed, the handlebars turned sideways or taken off and the derailleur covered with cardboard. The frame and wheels go into cushioning material, the bike stands upright on the pallet and is lashed over the frame and fork — never over the spokes or gear levers. Carbon frames we secure exclusively over a broad area, never at a single point. An enclosing cardboard or film sheath protects during handling. For e-bikes your dispatcher clarifies the declaration of the lithium-ion battery (UN 3171): state of charge 30 to 50%, contacts taped over; the battery stays marked in compliance with the rules in the bike or is packed separately.

You receive a fixed price up front; as a guide, the rules of thumb (±15%): Sprinter van around €1.10/km (from €89). A single bike travels as a part load as an affordable individual item, with short routes at the minimum price of €89. An e-bike by Sprinter direct transport from Hamburg to Stuttgart (around 660 km) comes to roughly €1.10/km, so about €725. Cost drivers are the battery declaration for e-bikes, sensitive carbon frames requiring extra packaging effort, and fixed deadlines that call for a direct transport. Frequently asked questions
Do I have to completely dismantle my bicycle for shipping?
No. For pallet transport it is enough to remove the pedals and turn the handlebars sideways; on a direct transport the bike can even stay fully assembled. Only for shipping in a bike box are the wheel and seatpost additionally removed — a bike dealer in your area can take this on if you wish.
How does shipping an e-bike with a permanently built-in battery work?
Permanently built-in batteries up to 100 Wh are non-critical; the usual e-bike batteries of 400–750 Wh fall under UN 3171 but may travel by road with correct marking. Your dispatcher clarifies whether the battery stays in the bike or is packed separately — we organise both in compliance with the rules.

Can you transport a high-quality carbon bike without damage?
Yes. We secure carbon frames exclusively over a broad area with padding, never at a single point with strap tension, and transport them upright on the pallet or in the bike box. For particularly valuable bikes we recommend the direct transport with minimal handling.
